Optometrist Katrina French has joined the family business of Visique Peter Dick Optometrists. Katrina is the niece of Peter Stewart Dick and the granddaughter of Peter Leslie Dick and is the fifth generation of the family to join the family business as an Optometrist since 1915. In fact she is the sixth generation in a family business that started as Jewellers in 1889. Aside from not being called Peter, Katrina is the first woman in the family to graduate as an Optometrist and join the family business. Six generations of a family business is rare anywhere in the world. Peter Stewart Dick qualified in 1986 with a Bachelor of Optometry degree from the University of Auckland Optometry school (B.Optom). He worked in Christchurch for nearly two years for a practice that specialised in children with reading disabilities. He then spent six months working in Melbourne Australia before going to the UK. There he passed the registration examinations and then worked as a locum Optometrist around the south east of England. He returned to NZ in 1991 and joined his father and they then opened the Oamaru practice. Peter S is also a member for the New Zealand Association of Optometrists and the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of New Zealand. Peter works in the Dunedin and Mosgiel branches and from April 2014 he visits regularly Cromwell and Ranfurly. In 2013 Peter received a Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics from the Queensland University of Technology. This year long post graduate course enables Peter to prescribe medications for eye conditions including red eyes. Peter also is a member of Glaucoma NZ and under takes online education. In June 2016 Peter attended the Optometry Meeting in Boston USA. This is the annual conference of the American Optometry Association. In 2018 Peter became a Board Approved Optometrist Glaucoma Prescriber in 2018. This allows Peter to independently treat and manage Glaucoma.
