Were specialist orthodontists. Why use a specialist orthodontist? In New Zealand, dentists are permitted to provide some orthodontics. The range of treatment provided depends on the dentists exposure to short courses and training sessions held by various speakers and lecturers that are not related with a university. Dentists may be able to offer a certain level of orthodontic treatment, but when it comes to difficult and more challenging cases, these are referred to a specialist orthodontist. While equipped with the training to do so, a specialist orthodontist does not normally carry out other dental treatment (e.g. fillings or extractions). Orthodontists spend all of their time thinking and practising orthodontics. A specialist orthodontist is a dentist who has undertaken three additional years of full-time training at university. During the three years of speciality training, he or she attends over 5500 hours of lectures, seminars and clinical session that provide an evidence-based, scientific approach to treatment. Dr Mo Al-Dujaili and Dr Azza Al-Ani are locally trained orthodontic specialists.
