Physio Function Helping the neuro-development of children and rehabilitation of adults My goal is to assist children and adults to become more active and independent in their daily lives. An individualised assessment and treatment programme will be offered either in my clinic or in your home or setting of choice. The programme will be tailored to fit your requirements and will be flexible in terms of frequency and duration; sessions are usually one hour long. • Kate Hedges has worked in this physiotherapy field for over 30 years and has specialised in treating babies and children with Developmental Delays, Co-ordination / Balance difficulties and Neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy and other neurological conditions. Early therapy takes advantage of brain neuroplasticity so that all developmental areas can be promoted, and the child's development maximised. Kate also works with teenagers / adults of all ages, who have a variety of neurological problems such as strokes, head injuries, and Cerebral Palsy. Her practice includes a hands-on approach which means actual handling of the client to help them improve their posture and movement and be as active as possible to achieve functional daily skills whether learning to roll over, sit up, pull to stand, walk or be involved in activities appropriate to their level of ability so that all body parts and systems ae integrated. The client's skills and self -learning of tasks will develop with practice, guidance, and motivation within different situations / environments so that 'they' can participate. Play, communication, self-care skills and recreation are all part of an integrated approach that involves specific assessment of a person, so treatment / management can be customized for them. Parents and care-givers will be shown handling skills so that they can manage that client in daily life tasks. She is able to work in a variety of settings depending on the clients needs - homes, rehabilitation settings, special and mainstream pre-schools and schools, hospitals and her own home-based practice, which aims to provide a friendly and warm environment for all her clients. As a neurological physiotherapist Kate's aim is to, work with parents and care-givers, as well as other therapists such as Occupational, and Speech Language Therapists to ensure clients receive the best possible co-ordinated therapy and management, (Team Approach.)
